5 Key Requirements for Obtaining a Construction Permit
Obtaining a construction license is mandatory for undertaking projects of the following scale, regardless of whether you act as a primary contractor or subcontractor, or operate as a corporation or individual sole proprietor:
- General Construction Work (Complete Building Projects): Projects valued at 15 million yen or more, or wooden residential construction projects with a total floor area of 150 m² or more.
- Other Construction Work: Projects valued at 5 million yen or more.
*Note: To obtain a license, applicants must satisfy strict requirements, including the appointment of an Executive Manager (Management Officer) and a Full-Time Technical Specialist.

Post-Licensing Management Requirements
Obtaining a license is not the end of the process. Under the law, you are required to submit regular notifications and applications:
- Annual Financial Settlement Change Notification: Must be submitted within 4 months after the end of each fiscal year.
- Notifications for Various Changes: Required when changes occur, such as updates to executive officers, trade names, or capital stock.
- Renewal Application Every 5 Years: Systematic procedures to prevent license expiration.
Our office provides end-to-end support, from initial license acquisition to subsequent complex notifications and renewal procedures. We help reduce your administrative burden, allowing you to focus entirely on running your core business.
